Mews Room Work has begun on an exciting new refurbishment project of the 16 Mews Apartments at Sopwell House, transforming them into a new premium range of accommodation. The apartments were created in 1998 and are housed within a series of traditional farmhouse cottage buildings and stables, set in their own gardens and are located adjacent to but separate from the main hotel. Accessed through secure gates and set within beautifully landscaped gardens created by RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold award winner Ann-Marie Powell, the apartments will offer greater privacy and a choice of more individually designed rooms. All of the furniture and fittings are bespoke and the walls are decorated with an eclectic mix of artwork and objects. Bathrooms are generously sized, with mood lighting and large vanity areas. Most have generous double-ended baths and in addition to this some also have a 'wet room'. Lighting will be a key element in the creation of a more luxurious look to these rooms with dimming incorporated throughout. Many apartments will include feature fireplaces, four-poster beds and high-end kitchenettes enabling a truly self-sufficient stay. All will include a minimum sized 40" TV with Sky HD, coffee machine and access to a communal hydro pool. Award-winning design agency Sparcstudio have redesigned the layouts of the apartments to optimise the feeling of space, providing links from lounge spaces onto private terraces or in some cases mini 'spa gardens' complete with their own exclusive cedar hot tub. Sparcstudio Director Beverley Bayes says "We have designed the rooms to have a bespoke feel which could be described as 'glamorous country'. The overall emphasis will also be very much on comfort, cosy features which reflect the scale of the buildings in which they are housed, such as welcoming feature fireplaces - the focal point of the lounge spaces. There will also be some features that you might not have at home such as romantic double ended in-room baths complete with fireplace backdrop and candle niches, and the all important champagne bottle rest to ensure it is close to hand!" Due for completion mid May 2015, these new apartments are set to offer some of the most luxurious, private and exclusive accommodation in the county.
